Türkiye’s Wind Energy Capacity Approaches 16 GW

Published

on

Türkiye recorded its highest annual capacity increase in wind energy history in 2025, commissioning 2,141.55 MW of new installations during the year.

According to the January 2026 Türkiye Wind Energy Statistics Report published by the Türkiye Rüzgar Enerjisi Birliği (TÜREB), total installed wind capacity reached 15,934.05 MW as of January 2026. This represents a 15.53% year-on-year increase.

Wind energy accounted for 12.18% of Türkiye’s total electricity generation in 2025, with June recording the highest monthly share of wind-based production.

Regional Distribution

The Marmara Region maintained its leading position with 6,968.6 MW of installed capacity, followed by the Aegean Region with 4,495.7 MW.

Other regions ranked as follows:

  • Central Anatolia: 1,733.8 MW
  • Mediterranean: 1,324 MW
  • Black Sea: 631.3 MW
  • Eastern Anatolia: 520 MW
  • Southeastern Anatolia: 260.5 MW

While western regions continue to dominate installed capacity, wind deployment is expanding across a broader national footprint.

Leading Investors and Turbine Manufacturers

According to the report, the leading investors in terms of operational installed capacity are:

  • Enerjisa Üretim – 1,035 MW
  • Borusan EnBW – 773 MW
  • Polat Enerji – 771 MW
  • Eksim Enerji – 732 MW
  • GÜRİŞ – 702 MW

In turbine manufacturing market share, the distribution is as follows:

  • Nordex – 34%
  • Enercon – 24%
  • GE – 15%
  • Vestas – 15%
  • Siemens Gamesa – 8%
  • Goldwind – 2%

19 GW Pipeline in Storage-Integrated Wind Projects

One of the notable highlights of the report is the rapid growth in storage-integrated wind projects. As of 2025, the project pipeline for storage-linked wind capacity has reached approximately 19 GW.

This development signals a new phase in system flexibility and grid integration, reflecting the increasing importance of hybrid and storage-supported renewable solutions.

“Super Permit” Reform Targets Faster Approvals

On 24 July 2025, a regulatory reform widely referred to as the “Super Permit” entered into force. The regulation aims to streamline permitting procedures for renewable energy investments.

In projects where approval timelines could previously extend up to 48 months, the reform targets a reduction to approximately 18 months. The introduction of a parallel permitting framework is considered a significant step toward improving predictability in project development schedules.

With installed capacity approaching the 16 GW threshold and structural reforms underway, Türkiye’s wind energy sector continues to strengthen its role within the country’s broader energy transition strategy.
