Borusan Lojistik makes its mark in the energy sector

At Borusan Lojistik, we have been maintaining steady growth in the energy sector with our services and solutions. We offer integrated logistics services aimed at the energy sector as part of our project logistics services. Thanks to our existing broad distribution, know-how and wide range of suppliers, we also carry out projects in Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Far East and the Persian Gulf with the same service understanding and advantages that we offer when carrying out Turkish or Turkey-related projects.
Wind energy constitutes a segment of the energy sector that we care about the most. We anticipate that investments in this area will continue to improve with increased momentum in the coming 5 to 10 years. Through this approach we have achieved investments of approximately $2.5 million together with new equipment and infrastructure used in Turkey for the first time. In this way we have broadened our heavy vehicle fleet and increased our service capacity with investment in new 8 and 10-axle trailers, 6×4 tow trucks and our rotor blade adaptor. Thanks to the technology we have used in our rotor blade adaptor project there has been a huge improvement in the transfer of Wind Power Plants and we are now able to raise rotor blades up to 50 degrees, each of which are about 70 meters in height, and rotate them through -/+ 110 degrees. We are the first Turkish company to utilize the “Rotor Blade Adaptor Solution” which is used in a number of projects throughout the world.
We first used this new technology in the Fuat Wind Power Plant Project and made our mark as first in Turkey. We used the Rotor Blade Adaptor equipment to transport the rotor blades of the ten wind turbines as part of the FUAT Wind Power Plant project, which is being established in Kemalpaşa, İzmir by Borusan EnBW Energy as the investor and Vestas Wind Systems A/S as the producer and installer.
Other projects carried out in the energy sector include unloading the turbine materials for Borusan Energy EnBW’s Mut Wind Power Plant project at Taşucu port in Mersin and transporting them to Mut at an altitude of 1,600 meters; transferring the wind turbine set supplied from China for the Bereket Energy project to Yalova; as well as transporting blades, varying from 58.50 to 62.00 meters in length, from factories in Şaşalı and Menemen to the ports in Alsancak and İzmir since 2016.
By bringing our new rotor blade adaptor equipment and engineering solutions together, as well as our heavy vehicle fleet that we expanded last year through investments, we will continue to provide our customers with the advantages and difference-making services that we offer particularly in the field of wind power.
In addition, in the coming period, when Wind Power Plant blade and tower production starts in Turkey, we will be taking our share of export transportations made specifically in the field of Wind Power Plant logistics from Turkey.

Mammoet begins assembly of world’s biggest land-based crane

SK6000 ring crane redefines modular construction methodologies across heavy industry
Mammoet, the global leader in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has started assembling the world’s strongest land-based crane, the SK6000, at its Westdorpe facility in the Netherlands.
This monumental project marks a new era in heavy lifting technology, offering unprecedented lifting capacity and reach, and opening up new construction methodologies for large projects.
The SK6000 ring crane is testament to Mammoet’s commitment to innovation, but also sustainability. The crane will offer full electric operation. This means it enables the transition to cleaner power sources while driving down the carbon impact of energy projects themselves.
The SK6000 has a maximum capacity of 6,000t, and is capable of lifting components up to 3,000t to a height of 220 meters. Its sheer lifting power allows Mammoet customers to build more efficiently in larger pieces, shrinking the logistics, integration and mobilization phases of projects.
The crane provides a huge leap forward for projects in emerging energy sectors, supporting the continued constructability of next-generation wind turbine and foundation components needed to achieve higher yields from offshore wind farms. It also unlocks new modular construction options for nuclear facilities, with increased cost-effectiveness and safety.
In the oil and gas sector, the SK6000 helps new build and expansion projects to benefit from economies of scale on a level never before seen. It builds on the design philosophy of Mammoet’s SK190 and SK350 series, which are proven in the market.
Following mobilization of all parts to Mammoet’s Westdorpe site, initial works include assembly of the crane’s base frame, power packs and control room. Mammoet’s auxiliary cranes are supporting the build, including two 250-tonne crawler cranes and a 140-tonne Gottwald mobile harbor crane.
Koen Brouwers, Project Manager for the SK6000, said:
“This is a thrilling new chapter for Mammoet and modular construction in heavy industry, as we see the SK6000 taking shape.
It will offer a hook height, outreach, and lifting capacity far in excess of any crane on the market. We are excited to bring this groundbreaking technology to our customers, helping them achieve their project goals with greater efficiency and more sustainably.”
Assembly of the SK6000 is scheduled to be completed during Q4 2024.
